The royal King (or Chinook) salmon migrates thousands of miles up the Yukon River in Alaska to spawn

Many of us are familiar or have seen pictures of big salmon, such as this Chinook salmon which ranged from California to Alaska. Their populations have disappeared by as much as 40 percent. Chinook are born in freshwater and move among a wide variety of freshwater habitats to find food and cover.
