For partners in the Lake Champlain Basin, salmon are a benchmark for improving the overall health of a watershed that is home to many other species, including humans.

An evolving understanding of fish behavior and physiology is helping partners advance a long-term goal for salmon restoration in the Lake Champlain Basin: recolonization of rivers by natural populations.

Partners are conducting research in hatcheries and in the field to get to the bottom of an emerging challenge for the Lake Champlain salmon restoration effort: alewife.
